Film Portraits
Since 2008, the National Film Board of Canada (NFB) has been an important creative concept partner of the Governor General's Performing Arts Awards. The NFB pairs different Canadian filmmakers with GGPAA laureates to create a series of short films, each as richly iconoclastic and deeply individual as the artist it seeks to capture. Inspired by the passion, talent and dedication of their subjects, the filmmakers bring together the animation and documentary arts to produce an exciting cinematic experience for the Awards and create a lasting legacy.
Premiered at the annual Awards Gala, these vibrant film portraits are a highlight of the evening’s celebrations.
